Mike Maignan has been a key part of the AC Milan side in recent seasons and has become one of the leaders in the club’s dressing room.
Corriere dello Sport state the Rossoneri don’t want to lose a key player and talks are ongoing with Maignan’s entourage to reach a final agreement over a new deal. Milan are more convinced than ever that they can tie the goalkeeper down to a new contract.
The journey hasn’t been smooth to where Milan find themselves. Chelsea, it is reported, recently made ‘more than one enquiry’ about the player, and Bayern Munich had also contacted the player’s agents to potentially land him.
Despite Chelsea’s efforts, Maignan was never really keen on a exit. He is currently happy at Milan and wants to continue playing for them.
It isn’t just the keeper’s intentions that dented Chelsea’s hopes, as Milan’s asking price was over €80m and that seems to have driven away potential suitors.
The Blues now have Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, and whilst they don’t have an obvious need for another goalkeeper in their squad, all bets are off next summer.
