Having bolstered their right-wing with the acquisition of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, Chelsea are now thinking about the other side of the pitch.

Frank Lampard appears keen to remodel his squad a bit ahead of the new season, and one of the names he has chosen for that is Brentford’s Saïd Benrahma.

The forward has been one of the Championship club’s stars over the past couple of seasons, attracting a lot of Premier League interest, and it appears Chelsea are trying to overtake the rest of the competition.

According to La Gazette du Fennec, the Stamford Bridge side have now come forward and ‘officially contacted’ the 24-year-old, having made Benrahma one of their ‘priorities’.

It’s explained Chelsea were already interested back in January, but nothing came of it, perhaps because their focus was elsewhere, somewhere in Holland, near Amsterdam.

With that now out of the way, the website state the Blues have ‘accelerated things’ and ‘officially’ contacted the forward with a view to buy him in the summer.

‘Strongly interested’ in the former Nice player, Chelsea would however need to fork out a hefty fee of €40m for the Brentford star, as that’s how much they will be asking for him in the coming months.

However, there’s a belief the Covid-19 pandemic could make things a little cheaper, at a ‘more reasonable’ price of €30-35m.

Certainly one to keep an eye on, because this would represent a great deal for Brentford, having only spent €1.7m on Benrahma in the first place back in July 2018.
