Earlier this month, claims from the UK stated Chelsea haven’t given up on Sporting star Viktor Gyökeres even if Arsenal have been leading the race.
Two weeks ago, A Bola reported the Lions would quite like a bidding war between the London clubs, but the striker had his heart set on joining the Gunners.
On Tuesday, Correio da Manhã reported Arsenal are pushing forward, but Mikel Arteta’s side have to be wary of Chelsea and Juventus.
That’s according to Thursday’s edition of Record, who state both the Blues and the Serie A club have made approaches ‘in the past few hours’ for Gyökeres.
The UEFA Conference League winners and the Turin club contacted Sporting to ask about the conditions to sign the 26-year-old. He has a €100m release clause in his contract but can leave for less than that.
Record state Sporting president Frederico Varandas won’t put any obstacles if there’s an offer of around €60-65m.
It’s to be noted that Sporting won’t be denying Chelsea and Juventus interest. In fact, the newspaper mentions Liverpool, PSG, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the Sweden international’s situation.
A potential bidding war favours Sporting to earn a little more from the frontman’s sale. It may also be a tactic from them to use Chelsea and Juve to put pressure on Arsenal to present a better deal than they otherwise would have.
