Earlier on Wednesday, we covered claims from Italy that Chelsea had joined the race to sign Lucas Digne from Everton.

The Blues will be without Ben Chilwell for the foreseeable future, with the England international set to undergo surgery in the near future, likely keeping him out until the end of the season, and so a replacement will be needed.

As things stand, Thomas Tuchel only has Marcos Alonso at his disposal, which is why their attention has turned to Digne.

The Frenchman has fallen out of favour at Everton since the arrival of Rafa Benitez, with whom he has failed to get along with, and so a potential exit, freeing up wages and likely bringing in some money down the line, is on the cards.

The Toffees appear to have his replacement lined up in Vitaliy Mykolenko, and so if Chelsea come knocking, perhaps a deal could be struck.

L’Equipe in France back up the Italian claims, stating in their print edition that the Blues are ‘very interested’ in the former Barcelona man, and have made him a ‘priority’.

In fact, ‘a loan is mentioned’, suggesting that’s how the move would first take place, but no transfer fee is in the short article, so if you see a figure attributed to the French newspaper, it hasn’t come from there.
