Chelsea make late approach for crucial player – Blues attempt causing ‘considerable unrest’

Late on Wednesday, De Telegraaf reported Chelsea have made a €50m bid to sign Ajax’s Edson Álvarez.

The Mexico international is not the only Eredivisie player on the west London club’s agenda.

Another report from De Telegraaf explains Chelsea are causing ‘considerable unrest’ in Dutch football. After placing the proposal for Álvarez, they knocked on PSV Eindhoven’s door for Ibrahim Sangaré.

On August 7th, the midfielder signed a new five-year deal with the club. The report says it includes a €37m release clause. It was an indication the Ivory Coast international will stay with his current employer this season.

The Blues ‘could still change the picture’ on deadline day.

Chelsea are looking for a midfielder and ‘play chess on multiple boards’, meaning working on multiple targets. If the Premier League side want to sign Sangaré, then they can take him away from PSV by paying his €37m release clause.

Thomas Tuchel’s side looking at the 24-year-old is likely to cause concern to PSV, even though they handed him a new deal less than a month ago.

If Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side were to see Sangaré leave, they will not be able to bring in a replacement because the window in the Netherlands closed on Wednesday.
