It’s been a while since Chelsea and Antoine Griezmann were mentioned in the same sentence, but Corriere dello Sport have managed.
The Italian newspaper pull it off when looking at where the France international could go, as he’s Juventus’ dream signing to bolster their attack.
Fully aware they will face hefty competition to sign him, the Serie A leaders have also earmarked Edinson Cavani as the more ‘realistic’ target, even though he could cost them more.
It’s worth pointing out here that Corriere certainly don’t talk up Chelsea’s interest in Griezmann as much as they do, say, Barcelona’s, but it’s there.
Coming after the La Liga side and Manchester United, Antonio Conte’s current club are said to be ‘in the background’ of the whole thing, most likely keeping an eye out just in case an opportunity to pounce arises.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or ignoring all transfer rumours until this very moment, you’ll be aware that signing Griezmann in the summer should be pretty straightforward since he has a €100m release clause in his contract.
Once that’s paid, it’s all about convincing him with wages, and while he might be a not-so-covert Manchester United fan or prefer Barcelona weather to the grey English skyline, if neither club make a move for him, Chelsea could end up being his best option.
That, and he’d be teaming up with quite a few players he already knows well like Olivier Giroud, N’Golo Kanté, Tiémoué Bakayoko and maybe even Kurt Zouma.
Only problem there is, bar a crazy next couple of weeks at the top end of the table: no Champions League.
