Currently on loan with Metz in Ligue 2 from Chelsea in the Premier League, Victorien Angban is normally a surefire starter.

Picking a goal and two assists in his first seven league appearances, there were question marks regarding his absence in the squad to FC Niort last weekend, which his side went on to win 3-0.

Well, according to Le Republicain Lorrain, the 22-year-old Chelsea loanee was punished by his manager for returning late from international duty.

The defensive midfielder was called up by Ibrahima Kamara for the double header against Central African Republic during the last break, but never set foot on the pitch.

Signed from Stade d’Abidjan back in 2012, the Chelsea midfielder is contracted to the Stamford Bridge side until June 2020, having spent previous loan spells in Belgium, with Sint-Truiden and Waasland Beveren, and Spain, where he spent a season with Granada.

Despite being at the club for six years, Angban has never played for the Blues.

The midfielder is expected to return to Metz’s starting line up for the next game against Lorient, having served his punishment.
