Chelsea loanee Nathan de Souza should not be returning to the club this summer, according to reports from Brazil.

Website UOL claims that although it’s still not official, his loan spell with Atletico Mineiro has been extended for six more months.

That’s the reason why he continues to train normally at Galo, despite being supposed to leave the Brazilian side by the end of June.

UOL also says that Nathan should not renew his contract with Chelsea, and that would give Atlético a chance to keep him permanently. But that’s where the strange claims start.

UOL says that Nathan’s deal with Chelsea expires in December, which means he’s allowed to sign a pre-contract for the time when he becomes a free agent in January.

However, websites like Transfermarkt say Nathan’s contract with Chelsea only expires in June 2020. That’s the standard procedure for British clubs, and we’d be surprised to see the player being an exception.

In contact with Sport Witness, Atletico Mineiro explained that his contract runs until 2020, but they couldn’t confirm the exact date.
