Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rumenigge has revealed Chelsea and Liverpool are battling his club for RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.
Upamecano has been heavily linked with a big-money move in the summer, having continued to establish himself as one of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe.
A release clause worth €40-45m means he is expected to be courted by a number of big clubs in the summer, with Bayern at the top of that list.
They are on the hunt for a long-term successor to David Alaba, who is set to leave the club on a free transfer after contract negotiations with the club failed.
Chelsea are among those, with their defence have remained a problem this season despite the arrival of Thiago Silva.
Liverpool have also been named as suitors, with them needing a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk, although that may have changed following their deadline day business.
Either way, Rumenigge sees both as competitors for Upamecano’s signature, and revealed as much in conversation with Sky.
“There are still at least two attractive competitors with Bayern Munich,” he said, before specifically naming Chelsea and Liverpool.
“The fact is that the player is interesting. The fact is that we are in the position where we will at least lose David Alaba.
“We cannot reliably predict whether we will lose more players.
“(Alaba will leave) 99.9 percent, so we need to close the gap properly. Upamecano is a player who can be trusted.”
