Having found themselves short at the left-back position following the injury to Ben Chilwell and his subsequent operation to fix it, Chelsea had to bring back Kenedy from his loan in Brazil.
It isn’t an ideal situation, but after Lucas Digne went to Aston Villa and following Lyon’s refusal to allow Emerson Palmieri to return to Stamford Bridge, the decision was made.
That being said, it appears the club still haven’t given up on the idea of bringing a new, more natural left-back option in the future, as links to Nicolas Tagliafico emerged, as well as a new one to Borna Sosa.
The 24-year-old currently plays for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, and Sky Germany, relayed by Fussball Transfers, claim both the Blues and Inter ‘would like to sign’ him.
That being said, the outlet explains the German side ‘has no thought about a sale’, with a price tag of €30m placed on the Croatia international, whose contract runs out in 2025.
They also state that Aston Villa ‘expressed’ interest, but that’s a need they no longer have after securing the transfer of Digne from Everton.
Whether Chelsea are willing to spend €30m on Sosa remains to be seen, but the fact they didn’t do so on the aforementioned Frenchman when he was available for a similar fee suggests they won’t be.
