Yet to make a signing this transfer window compared to most of their Premier League rivals, Chelsea are still looking for a centre-back.

With Manchester United having signed Eric Bailly, Manchester City buying Ilkay Gündogan from Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal splashing on Granit Xhaka, Chelsea are seemingly waiting for the Euros to be over before pleasing Antonio Conte.

The Italy national team manager has been linked with half of Serie A since he was announced as Guus Hiddink’s successor, and the tradition seems to be continuing on Wednesday.

Calciomercato report that quite a few clubs have held an interest in Inter Milan’s Colombian defender Jeison Murillo, including the Stamford Bridge contingent.

The Italian website state there remains a small chance the player could end up under Antonio Conte after the Blues let Murillo’s entourage know there was some interest from them, despite no concrete offer being made as of yet.

Having been bought for €30m (£23.8m) from Granada, few clubs are willing to invest such an amount on a new defender, including the other having previously made contact with Inter, claimed to be Roma and Barcelona.

This leaves only Chelsea as those capable of splashing so much on a new defender, but as Calciomercato say, there’s only a small chance of that happening.

The 24-year-old made 35 appearances for Inter Milan last season, scoring two goals and helping his teammates out with one assist in the process.
