Chelsea are following Lazio striker Ciro Immobile’s situation ahead of a possible move for the Italian this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who say the Blues are eyeing up Immobile even if they complete a deal for Timo Werner.
Immobile has been in red-hot form this season, scoring 30 goals in 33 games in all competitions, with his tally is 27 league goals the second highest in Europe’s top five leagues.
Naturally, that form has seen him linked with a move around Europe, with several Premier League clubs thought to be keen on his signature.
Chelsea have not been among those named, but CalcioMercato.it add them to the race today and say he is an ‘idea’ at the club.
They report that strikers Michy Batshuayi and, surprisingly, Tammy Abraham ‘seem destined’ to leave Stamford Bridge this summer and thus Frank Lampard is looking for additions.
He’s already targeted Werner and looks set to wrap that deal up but also ‘appreciates’ Immobile after his performances this season.
No ‘official steps’ have been made as yet and even if they were to take them, convincing Immobile to move would not be an easy task.
He has a ‘great relationship’ with the club and everyone at it, having rebuilt his career there following his disappointing spell at Borussia Dortmund. He’s therefore in no rush to leave, and likewise, they are in no hurry to sell their star man.
The ‘sirens’ from the Premier League continue to make themselves heard, though, with Chelsea seemingly not the only suitors for him.
Gazzetta Dello Sport also report today that Newcastle United have made the first move for Immobile, offering €55m plus €10m a year wages on a five-year deal.
That is described as a ‘dizzying’ offer that could tempt the Italian into moving, and would presumably be one Chelsea would have to match if their interest is genuine.
That seems unlikely, though, because this claim is based on the idea of them selling Abraham, which is dubious given his impressive first-season under Lampard this year.
