Juventus are not ‘in a hurry’ to sign Jorginho from Chelsea but believe they could get him cheaper if the Blues miss out on the Champions League.
The Serie A side have been linked with making a move for the Italian midfielder this summer as a result of his relationship with Maurizio Sarri.
The player was a star under the Italian coach during their time together at Napoli and joined him at Stamford Bridge in 2018 as part of a big-money deal.
The move to Chelsea has not worked out as planned, with Sarri departing last summer, and Jorginho has found himself playing a reduced role under his replacement Frank Lampard.
Talk of a reunion at Juventus has been rife for several months, and Tuttosport explain what is going on today.
According to the newspaper, Juve are keen to add a more ‘Sarri-like’ midfielder to their squad after completing a deal for Barcelona’s Arthur.
They want a player with ‘more quality in dribbling, more habit of moving without the ball and defending forward’ and these are all characteristics that they know Jorginho can bring.
He would enjoy a ‘natural and immediate’ integration into the team, so they are keen on a deal but are not in a hurry to get it done.
That is because they believe that they can get a better price for him should Chelsea miss out on the Champions League on the final day of the season.
That would leave Jorginho, who earns €5m a year, as a very expensive and unwanted player that they would be keen to get off the books.
It would thus be ‘easier’ to bring him to Juventus in a potential ‘bargain’ deal, hence why they are waiting to see how things pan out before really making their move.
