Chelsea have a potential problem lining up for the summer, with a number of players coming to the end of their contracts at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta all have deals which expire at the end of June, and all three players have been seriously linked with moves elsewhere in recent weeks.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will therefore have to consider replacements. Monday saw claims from Germany that Christensen could be moving to Bayern Munich as a free agent, with Niklas Sule potentially going to Chelsea on the same basis.
Later in the day, it was officially announced that Sule will instead be joining Borussia Dortmund, so that’s one option off the table for the Champions League winners.
Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo says Chelsea interest in Ronald Araujo has ‘appeared in recent days’, but it’s actually been reported in the Catalan media for some weeks.
The Barcelona player has a contract until 2023, and without a renewal it’s thought Barca would look to sell him in the summer.
However, there is hope that he’ll put pen to paper, although a much better salary offer is needed from the Blaugrana for that to happen.
Mundo say Chelsea have been considering Araujo due to the danger of them losing players, and he’ll be one of the options for the Premier League club until he signs a renewal with Barcelona.
