Chelsea have joined the list of suitors for goalkeeper Alphonse Areola this summer, with it thought likely he will leave the Bernabeu.

The French ‘keeper is currently on loan with Zinedine Zidane’s side from Paris Saint-Germain, after they brought him as back up to Thibaut Courtois.

He’s mostly impressed when given a chance, and the Spanish side are keen on making his move a permanent one as they intended to keep him until youngster Andriy Lunin is ready.

However, Defensa Central report that Areola is not keen on staying as he wants to ‘recover the sensation of feeling important’ in a team again, particularly one that plays in the Champions League.

That could be on offer from Chelsea, with Frank Lampard believed to be on the lookout for a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

DC claim the Blues ‘intend to bet’ on Areola next season and make their move for him should he return to PSG as expected.

Of course, this is not the first time he’s been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. In 2018 Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon revealed that Areola wanted to leave PSG to join Chelsea after Gianluigi Buffon moved to the club.

That never happened, and there’s every chance this is just a rehash of those rumours, but with the Blues seemingly on the hunt for a keeper’, perhaps his chance to get the move he wanted two years ago is there.
