Chelsea started contacts for the renewal of Thiago Silva’s contract, according to claims on Tuesday afternoon.
Italian website Tutto Mercato Web is the one reporting that the player has given his availability for a new deal, and could have his future committed to the club until 2022.
They claim that Thiago Silva ‘convinced everyone’ in his first months at Stamford Bridge, as he already has an ‘important role’ in the locker room.
Tutto Mercato Web writes that the talks should accelerate in the next few days, so his new deal could be announced sooner than expected.
Thiago Silva’s wish to get a new contract at Chelsea had already been mentioned in an interview he gave to the Brazilian media earlier this month.
The defender joined the Blues as a free agent following his departure from Paris Saint Germain in the summer, and at the age of 36, a short-term deal was accepted.
Now his eight appearances for Chelsea seem to be enough to show that he has a lot more to do for the club. Things continue to go perfectly fine for him at the national team as well, where he’s been the captain in the last few games.
