Gianfranco Zola believes Chelsea’s need for points in the Champions League could prove a ‘decisive factor’ in their upcoming clash with AC Milan.
Chelsea host Milan on matchday three of the Champions League group stages on Wednesday after a poor start to their European campaign.
An opening game defeat to Dinamo Zagreb was followed by a disappointing draw with RB Salzburg and left the Blues bottom of Group E and three points behind leaders Milan.
It means they are in desperate need of points if they are to progress from the group and now face a double header against Milan, who top the group after a win and a draw in their first two games.
The first meeting is at Stamford Bridge last week, with many predicting another tough evening for Graham Potter and his men.
Former Chelsea favourite Zola certainly believes that will be the case, and has hinted there may be one decisive factor in proceedings.
“The weight will be all on the shoulders of the English,” Napoli Magazine report him saying.
“With one point in the last two matches of the round, (they) can no longer make mistakes.
“Milan will play with more tranquillity, and this could be a decisive factor, because the Rossoneri, when they play with serenity and lightness, express their qualities at their best.”
