It was always going to happen considering the season he is currently having, and now Dries Mertens is being strongly linked with a lot of Premier League clubs.

Manchester United seem to be the recurring favourites, yet Manchester City, and now Chelsea, are also candidates to sign one of this season’s most prolific goalscorers in Serie A.

In fact, Il Mattino, who just the other day reported Manchester United were prepared to meet Dries Mertens’ contractual demands, now claim the player’s representatives met with a Chelsea director back in December to discuss a possible transfer.

The local Naples newspaper state the Belgian forward is now in Antonio Conte’s project for next season, which makes a lot of sense on paper.

We’ll have to wait and see if more comes from this reported meeting, but it seem Mertens could very well have a difficult decision to make this summer, especially if two of the interested sides are Premier League clubs willing to meet his €4m/year wage demands.
