For reasons only they know, Don Balon reckon Eden Hazard’s long held desire to play for Real Madrid is enough to make Chelsea sell him for a bargain price.
The Premier League champions are said to not want to push towards the €200m figure which has been thrown around ahead of other potential blockbuster summer moves, and, feeling all nice and warm towards Hazard’s ambition, would settle for €100m instead.
This, for Don Balon, is a bargain.
It’s believable that Hazard wants to join Real Madrid, it’s also believable the Spanish club would want Chelsea’s star. Stretching things, it may also be believable that Chelsea wouldn’t make a deal almost impossible, given the Belgium international’s service to the club so far.
What isn’t believable is that Chelsea would be happy to lose tens of millions, just because they’ve been overcome with gratitude for Hazard and can understand his career aims.
The only way Hazard would go to Madrid for such an amount is if Chelsea were concerned about losing him on a free transfer, and with a deal running until June 2020, that worry isn’t so present this summer.
