In search of a new centre-back for next season, Chelsea are doing the rounds of Europe.
Set to lose Fikayo Tomori to Milan thanks to Frank Lampard’s decision to let him go on loan with a purchase clause, the Blues are searching around the continent for the right man to help Thomas Tuchel out, and Raphaël Varane has joined the list.
AS explained on Monday morning that the German manager had ‘requested his incorporation’ at Stamford Bridge, and Real Madrid would be open to a sale.
The Frenchman’s contract at Santiago Bernabéu is set to expire in 2022, and with no renewal agreement in sight, a move to England could suit everyone.
This is corroborated by France Football, who explain Chelsea and Manchester United are ‘ready to fight’ for Varane, while the player ‘seems to be interested’ in the idea of having an experience in the Premier League.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of this, but it appears the Real Madrid player is on Tuchel’s list, and the Blues, clearly excited with where the club is headed under the German, could end up granting him his wish.
