With just one year left on his contract, Riyad Mahrez is going to be an attractive option for a few clubs this summer.
That is, of course, unless the Algeria international renews, but with some change seemingly set to take place this summer at the Etihad, this could be the time for him to try something new.
Whether that’s abroad or still in the Premier League remains to be seen, because Foot Mercato in France are claiming that Chelsea are among the interested parties ‘following’ the forward.
The 31-year-old has been key to Manchester City’s good form this season, scoring 23 goals and assisting another eight in 42 appearances in all competitions, which is probably why Thomas Tuchel is keen on working with him.
He knows the Premier League well, and wouldn’t have to move too far to start over should Chelsea come knocking, but they aren’t the only ones.
Foot Mercato state Barcelona, Real Madrid and Milan are also all keen, with the latter close to being bought by a Bahrain-backed fund and reportedly ‘very interested’ in Mahrez.
Whether they get the Manchester City man remains to be seen, as Chelsea are also in the mix, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, who wouldn’t mind bringing the Algerian star to the club.
There’s no mention of how much Mahrez would cost, but should the Blues get out of their current situation with a change of ownership, whatever fee is asked from league leaders shouldn’t be overly exorbitant considering his contractual situation.
One to keep an eye on.
