The Chilean version of AS today brings a very interesting story on Antonio Conte’s love for Arturo Vidal.

With the manager now trying to sign the Barcelona star for Inter Milan, the outlet writes that this pursuit has been actually been going on for years now.

Following their work together at Juventus, it’s said Antonio Conte first tried to reunite with Vidal at Chelsea. Once the coach took charge of the Blues in 2016, he called the midfielder ‘multiple times’.

Vidal is said to have an obsession with winning the Champions League, and since Chelsea wouldn’t play the competition in that season, the offer was turned down by the player.

“They contacted him every week, but Arturo always said no,” people close to Vidal told AS.

It’s said that Conte faces a similar problem now. Barcelona are in the Champions League round-of-16, with big chances of going through, while Inter Milan are out of the competition.

AS’ sources also claim that Vidal is happy in Catalonia, and sees a bigger chance of becoming a European chance by Lionel Messi’s side.

“Where could he have more possibilities than next to the best in the world?”
