Chelsea will be in the picture to take Milan Škriniar away from Inter Milan if the Italians fail to secure his long-term future at the club.

Paris Saint-Germain were keen on signing the centre-back in the summer but failed to agree a deal with the Serie A side. With a contract expiring in 2023, the Serie A side want to renew it, in order to avoid losing him for nothing.

According to FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri have scheduled a meeting with the 27-year-old’s entourage, between the end of this month and the beginning of October, to discuss his future.

Inter’s offer includes a salary of €5.5m net per year plus bonuses. This doesn’t satisfy the Slovakia international since the Ligue 1 side offered him €7.5m annually plus bonuses. PSG maintain interest in the defender and could make an approach in January.

If Škriniar has not signed an extension and PSG make an offer in the winter market, Inter chiefs Steven Zhang and Giuseppe Marotta will have a decision to make on whether or not to retain him in January.

In the event the player is still at the San Siro beyond January without an extension, then Chelsea could come into the picture.

The former Sampdoria man must watch out for the temptation from England and ‘above all, [from] Chelsea’.

Graham Potter’s side are ‘seriously reflecting’ on signing Škriniar next summer, when he will be available on a free transfer if there’s no renewal at Inter. Chelsea’s threat looms over Inter, but, as per the report, it will only start to manifest from the start of next year.

The case is wide open, and it is early to predict the outcome of Škriniar’s future now. The Blues are expected to be in the mix until there is some sort of clarity.
