Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso could be set for a move to Atlético Madrid in the January transfer window.

That’s according to journalist Pipe Estrada, who says negotiations over a move to Inter Milan are struggling due to Chelsea’s relationship with Antonio Conte.

Alonso was widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, with the arrival of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City only pushing him further down the pecking order.

There was interest in his services, particularly from Inter Milan and former boss Conte, but they failed to get a deal over the line.

He has continued to be linked with a move to Milan ever since the window closed, with it widely expected to become a talking point again in the January transfer window.

However, it now seems there is a new suitor in Atlético Madrid, with Estrada claiming Diego Simeone is eyeing the Spaniard as competition or Renan Lodi.

He explained that although Conte has told Alonso to be patient and a deal is 99% done, Chelsea do not want to negotiate with Inter and are asking for ‘a lot of money’ for the deal to happen.

That’s seen Atlético move into the picture instead, offering a loan deal until the end of the season in which they would also pay 50% of his wages.

There’s no mention of a purchase clause or anything of that nature, which we’re sure Chelsea would want to try and tack on as well if they are to get rid of Alonso.

That’s something they definitely want to do, though, and the fact they now have two suitors for him will come as good news indeed.
