Jules Koundé was heavily linked with Chelsea for most part of last summer and the Blues made an offer towards the end of that transfer window.
Sevilla were not convinced with the figures proposed by the Champions League winners and turned it down.
Fast forward to January and Marca on Thursday explains the west London club are still interested in the defender.
The centre-back has been again ‘tempted’ by Thomas Tuchel’s side, who, moved through his agent, for the 23-year-old. The La Liga side’s answer was ‘more forceful than in the summer: not now’.
However, the Blues ‘dragged out’, waiting to get rid of their own players [Kurt Zouma] first before bringing in a new defender. The deal didn’t take shape because Chelsea’s offer arrived after the August 20th deadline, and Julen Lopetegui’s side found it ‘insufficient’.
The Premier League side ‘asked again’ for Koundé, and in response, Sevilla referred to his release clause since they have no intention to sell the former Bordeaux man this month.
Sevilla don’t want the player to leave late in the January window because they don’t have sufficient time to bring in a replacement.
