It appears that Matthijs De Ligt remains the number one priority for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea to try and bolster the club’s backline.
Despite claims that moves have been made for Kalidou Koulibaly, Corriere dello Sport provide an update on the Blues’ chase for the Dutchman, where Bayern Munich are making their life difficult.
That’s because De Ligt would prefer a move to Bavaria, clearly interested in winning the Bundesliga, but what the Germans have put forward to date hasn’t convinced Juventus.
Bayern’s latest offer is of €70-75m ‘to which you can add something more in bonuses’, but it’s still ‘a long way off’ what the Serie A side want.
That’s supposedly ‘at least €100m’, but the German side’s insistence and ‘the will of De Ligt are now shaking Juventus’ position’.
As for Chelsea, they have decided to ‘up the ante’, starting with the fact that ‘the offer has been raised to €80m + bonuses’.
The problem is their proposal of a five-year contract (with the option for a sixth) worth €12-13m per season has yet to receive the yes from the player, which is key to any deal going over the line.
De Ligt is seemingly pushing for Bayern, and that’s not great news for Chelsea, because ‘sometimes the highest bid doesn’t win’.
