Chelsea have made a new big to tempt Napoli’s Dries Mertens to join the club this summer, with him yet to sign a new deal at the Italian club.
Mertens is out of contract in the summer and, while Napoli have been working hard to convince him to sign a new deal, he is yet to do so.
As a result, his future is in the air and, with a record as strong as his, he naturally has numerous suitors vying for his signature.
One of those are Chelsea, who attempted to secure the striker in the January transfer window when it appeared Olivier Giroud would be joining Inter Milan.
Neither move came off but, according to Corriere Dello Sport, Chelsea’s interest in Mertens has not gone away, and they have made a new bid to secure his signature.
The newspaper reports that they have been ‘extremely aggressive’ in their latest attempts to secure his signature.
Their latest move is described as ‘more determined’ and more ‘convincing’ than ever before, so much so that Mertens’s head has been turned.
At this moment in time, he has not made a decision on his future, but the Corriere insist that Chelsea’s new bid is ‘very dangerous’ to Napoli’s hopes of keeping him beyond the summer.
