Having appointed Frank Lampard as their new manager last summer, Chelsea have done well under his guidance, especially considering the Blues didn’t bring in any new faces to the club in the last two windows.
The west London club are currently fourth in the league and have progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Despite that, TuttoMercatoWeb reports the Europa League winners could relieve the ex-manager after this campaign.
Diego Simeone has been managing Atlético Madrid since 2011 and the Italian website states he could leave the La Liga side in the summer.
TMW suggest the time ‘may have come’ for Simeone to accept a new challenge, and it’s claimed he ‘reflects on his future’, whilst Chelsea ‘think about him’.
Simeone could be their new manager, if the English side decide to part ways with Lampard, and if the South American decides to leave Atlético.
Earlier this month, L’Equipe reported Simeone is the highest paid manager with a salary of €43.6m, over €20m more then second placed Pep Guardiola. It isn’t clear if Chelsea would be willing to match Simeone’s salary, if they end up hiring him.
There are so many “ifs” and “buts” for Simeone to be the next Chelsea manager, that’s it’s not worth giving too much attention to right now.
