Juan de Dios Crespo, the lawyer appointed by Watford, has laughed off claims from Cádiz CF and Mamadou Mbaye regarding the ongoing battle over the player.
The Spanish side were handed a ban by FIFA earlier this week after Watford reported them for signing the defender despite him having a contract at Vicarage Road.
FIFA upheld their claim, banning Cádiz CF from signing players for two transfer windows as well as banning the player for four months and ordering him to pay compensation to the Hornets.
Both Cádiz CF and Mbaye have hit back at the claims, with the player even claiming that the documents linking him to Watford are false.
They’re taking their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to try and get it overturned; a ruling Watford will naturally be keeping a keen eye on.
In the meantime, their lawyer, Juan de Dios Crespo, who fans may remember as the man who worked for Neymar and deposited his release clause for the move to PSG, has now commented on the case.
“The cheek of it when he’s acknowledged it elsewhere? Well, FIFA has all the documents, and I will inform CAS in due course.
“Situations like this happen on a regular basis. A player breaks a contract, but FIFA can’t stop the player from doing his job, so they give him the CTI (International Transfer Certificate), regardless of whether he’s right or wrong.
“But that’s the most basic thing in sports law, but nobody is aware of it. He’s never cancelled his contract with Watford.
“Cases like this are plentiful. There are players who have no place and leave without fulfilling their contract. 99%, not to say 100% of the clubs, denounce to defend their rights, to avoid being violated by a cheeky person. This is a warning.”
