Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Corinthians’ Wesley Gassova, according to a report from Brazil.
The 18-year-old graduated from the Brazilian club’s youth system before making his first team debut in 2022. Operating mainly on the left wing and at times in other attacking positions, he made 30 appearances this year, managing two goals and an assist in the process.
Bolavip Brasil state the winger has managed to draw attention from Newcastle and they are interested in signing him.
The outlet claims the news about the Magpies ‘could change everything’, likely for the Brazilian club as the versatile player’s sale will improve their finances.
It’s said Wesley’s current deal includes a €100m release clause and the report suggests Eddie Howe’s side, backed by the PIF, would be able to afford him.
To be clear, there’s no claim they’d pay €100m and there’s no chance they’d have to get anywhere near that figure anyway.
Bolavip’s headline says Newcastle ‘will come to Brazil’ to close the deal with Corinthians for the youngster but it’s worth noting that there isn’t anything to back this up within the report.
Newcastle aren’t the only English club showing interest in the teenager as Lance reported on Thursday that Everton are studying the possibility of making an offer for him in January.
