With Lucas Digne expected to leave Everton before the end of the season, Serie A continues to be pointed out as one of the potential destinations for him.
Today it’s newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport who features a piece saying there are two clubs interested in his signing. Those are Inter Milan and Napoli.
The outlet makes it clear this isn’t an ‘open duel’ for now, as both sides are ‘studying at distance’, but the Frenchman is said to be an interesting option, especially for Inter Milan.
It’s no surprise to see Italian clubs being said to prefer a loan deal rather than a permanent operation, but in this case, Gazzetta brings a couple of reasons why the Nerazzurri would go for this kind of transfer now.
They first say that Digne is worth over €25m, and that’s not an amount Inter Milan can afford in January.
Gazzetta then points out that Inter currently have Ivan Perisic playing as a left wing back. So what the club want is someone to compete for his place and also to be an option in case the Croatian isn’t available.
It also turns out that Perisic’s contract expires at the end of the season, and even though he’s expected to renew it, the Nerazzurri would like to have the alternative in the squad already. So it’d be more comfortable to have Digne on loan now and only buy him in the summer in case he proves himself or if they really need him for next season.
Napoli’s intention would also be to sign Digne on a loan deal, and a temporary spell at a new club is something that ‘has not been excluded’ by his agents. So Everton should get used to the idea that in case of negotiating with Italian sides, the left-back may not be sold so quickly.
