Chancel Mbemba may have completed his transfer from Newcastle United to FC Porto just a few days ago, but he’s already making it to the local news for other reasons.
The first topic is his age, which has been a subject of controversy years ago, and is questioned by the Portuguese media once again today.
Newspaper Correio da Manhã writes that there’s been doubts raised about his date of birth. That’s because his registration records at former clubs have already shown three different dates: 8 August 1988, 30 november 1991 and 8 August 1994.
The player, however, would have admitted that he was actually born in 1990.
Mbemba is also making it to the headlines today because he has picked up a knee injury in his first game for Porto.
Playing a friendly behind closed doors against Farense on Wednesday morning, the defender suffered a knee sprain, as officially reported by the Portuguese champions.
He’s now set to be examined once the squad returns to Invicta later tonight.
