Santiago Gimenez has had a turbulent few weeks.
Nottingham Forest trying to sign him towards the end of the summer window, and the striker reportedly rejecting the Premier League club has been the subject of endless chatter in the Netherlands and Mexico.
There’s been claims Gimenez isn’t good enough for the Premier League anyway, and then others suggesting he just needs to play himself back into form and attract a club he’d be more eager to join that Nottingham Forest.
More drama happened at the weekend against NAC, when Gimenez picked up an injury and was taken off by Feyenoord.
After that, journalist Mikos Gouka has stated that the injury could prove to be a bit of a positive for the striker, who can now take stock after a period of strife.
Gouka told AD: “For Gimenez it can be a chance to relax after a stressful period, after all the fuss about his possible transfer last month.
“[It was] A period in which he could not bring what he should bring. Let’s hope he is not out for long, but maybe this can give him some rest.”
A prolific scorer for the club initially, Gimenez has two goals in five games so far in the Eredivisie and he has been goalless in the last three games.
It’s not just this season there’s been issues, with insistence in the Netherlands that he’s been well below par for more than six months.
That’s why many saw the Nottingham Forest offer as a good opportunity for Feyenoord.
