When Newcastle United started being linked to FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, the Portuguese media pointed out how difficult it would be for the Magpies to sign him.
The main reason would be the price. The player is protected by a release clause worth €60m, and with the Dragons demanding at least €40m, it was said he’d be ‘too expensive’ for the Premier League side.
Well, the rumour went quiet in the past few days, and as newspaper A Bola today writes about the goalkeeper’s situation, they are still a bit sceptical about Newcastle landing Costa.
The outlet features a story highlighting Barcelona interest in the 22-year-old, and the piece starts by claiming the Magpies are ‘not the only interested club’.
When speaking of the Newcastle’s chances of landing Costa, it’s claimed that the goalkeeper doesn’t think of leaving Porto if not for a European giant.
They say the Magpies’ project ‘doesn’t completely fascinate him’, and that means his move to England is not likely.
Following international duty with Portugal, the goalkeeper is now set to spend his holiday period with his pregnant girlfriend, while he has ‘total trust’ in how his agent, Jorge Mendes, will handle his future this summer.
