Fresh claims of PSG interest in Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho have of course made their way to the Catalan press, regardless of how much truth is in any of it.
With a collection of propaganda from Barca and PSG, and their respective press, travelling around Europe, small things can very quickly be given more importance than they merit.
In their Wednesday edition, Mundo Deportivo report Barcelona are looking for ‘certainty’ on a Coutinho transfer ahead of the January transfer window. They don’t want to go in all guns blazing and be left without the player, there’s an element of pride in all of this.
Whilst talks have been held with agents, including Kia Joorabchian, Mundo Deportivo believe there’s a concern Coutinho has doubts. Not about whether he wants Barca, he does, but how much they want him.
The club’s battles with an out of control wage bill are said to be a concern, which could be a hint that Coutinho isn’t looking for a wage cut when he leaves Liverpool, quite the opposite.
Whilst Coutinho has an ‘agreement in principle’ with his entourage that Barcelona are the club wanted when he leaves Liverpool, there’s a Catalan worry that until things are fully agreed… anything could happen.
