Needing a win to get back on track after the 6-3 loss to Manchester City, Manchester United faced Everton late on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag made a few changes, and despite a poor start, as Alex Iwobi scored within the first five minutes, the Red Devils rallied to eventually win 2-1.

They were three important points for Manchester United, who will take solace from bouncing back in the league immediately, as they now prepare to face Omonia in the Europa League on Thursday.

Ten Hag was happy with the result, dubbing the first 35 minutes impressive, which some in Holland found a bit strange.

Those are former goalkeeper Sander Westerweld and recent Netherlands manager Frank de Boer, who were covering the game for Viaplay, and were rather critical of Manchester United’s performance despite the win.

Westerweld said, relayed by Voetbal Primeur: “Well, I don’t know what he meant. He makes it seem like they are on top. Maybe they are being positive on purpose because it has been mostly negative of late, but he makes it seem like they won 3-0.

“Ten Hag always talks about building. They have been hearing that at United since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, almost 10 years ago. The fans are a bit tired of it, of a manager talking about that every time.”

Looking back at Manchester United’s past wins in the Premier League, Westerweld said Liverpool ‘could have equalised’, before adding he still didn’t understand how they beat Arsenal.

As for the games against Leicester and Southampton, the displays were ‘really not convincing’, much like Sunday’s win over Everton.

De Boer then also chimed in, calling Manchester United’s play ‘very sloppy’, before adding: “So many unnecessary mistakes were made. It certainly wasn’t impressive.”
