Zvonimir Boban could be heading towards the exit door at AC Milan, less than a year after he was appointed as their Chief Football Officer.

The Serie A side’s owners are reportedly unhappy with the Croatian for being publicly critical about the club for holding talks with Ralf Rangnick without his knowledge.

With his time at the San Siro coming to an end, Calciomercato takes a look at the players he failed to sign for Milan. Tottenham Hotspur’s Gedson Fernandes is included in the list.

The 21-year-old was signed by Spurs on an 18-month loan deal from Benfica in January. The north London club also retain an option to make his transfer permanent in 2021.

It’s claimed that Boban and technical director Paolo Maldini had bet on the midfielder as they viewed him as a quality player, with good physical structure.

Boban wanted to bring Fernandes to Milan last summer until he realised the price of the operation was too high. Therefore, he slowed down efforts to sign the Portugal international and a few months later, he joined José Mourinho’s side.

Calcimercato states Boban regrets not signing Fernandes for Milan and the Italian outlet adds, ‘With Boban saying goodbye to Milan, he would have liked to close several deals: Gedson is certainly one of them’.
