Over the past 24 hours, we’ve covered a couple of articles regarding an alleged Wolverhampton Wanderers interest in Gennaro Gattuso.
The news comes as the Molineux club are somewhat struggling in the Premier League after some successful seasons, which has put some surprising pressure on Nuno Espiríto Santo.
There’s no denying the Portuguese manager has worked wonders since his arrival at Wolves, but with the club 12th in the table, there will come a point where those in charge could seek a replacement.
That appears to have already been the case, at least if the reports are to be claimed, as Gattuso’s name has popped up, and that has something to do with Jorge Mendes.
This time around, Mendes is the one who approached Wolverhampton with Gattuso’s name in his back pocket.
That is, at least, according to Ciro Venerato, who was speaking to RAI Sport, relayed by Area Napoli: “There is Gattuso. He was certainly offered by Mendes at Wolverhampton. We have to see if he wants to leave Italy to go to England”.
So that’s how that story seems to have come about, and we’ll have to wait and see whether this is something Wolves are interested in, either now, or in the summer, with the latter the likelier outcome, since it would be surprising if Nuno wasn’t given the entire season before a decision was made.
