Celtic showed keen interest in Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha in the past two windows and last summer, Brendan Rodgers’ side made an attempt to sign him.

In September 2024, Royal Antwerp CEO Sven Jaecques stated Celtic and Stade Rennais had negotiated for him, but an injury prevented his exit. He also hinted the Scottish champions could return in the winter market.

Gazet van Antwerpen have covered Celtic’s new attempt to sign the forward.

In August, the Belgian suffered a thigh injury and expected to be out for six to eight weeks. Instead, Balikwisha was sidelined until December and picked up a muscle injury on his return against Royal Charleroi SC.

At the start of this month, the winger returned to action against Anderlecht. He’s been talking to the newspaper on his injury situation and about Celtic’s interest in securing his services.

Brendan Rodgers’ side made an offer for the attacker, but he didn’t consider moving to Celtic Park in January due to his injury.

“Celtic’s offer this winter was concrete, but I didn’t want to leave injured,” he said.

“Celtic’s interest was specific, but I chose to stay. I didn’t think leaving with an injury was ideal. Then I’d rather take good care of myself, to be ready for the play-offs. We will see further in the summer window.”

It remains to be seen whether Celtic will return for Balikwisha at the end of this season.
