The theme of Marseille needing a striker continues in the French press, with time very quickly running out for the club. At Sport Witness we’ve covering Marseille’s increasingly desperate efforts, and L’Equipe have the club’s quest on their Tuesday front page.
This is clearly big news in France, hence it getting the front page despite there being no shortage of Ligue 1 transfer dramas. Interestingly, Celtic’s Moussa Dembele is the only Marseille option pictured on the cover, with the other spaces reserved for possible Monaco transfers.
Yet, despite Dembele being a cover star, and L’Equipe going big on Marseille’s striker search, there doesn’t appear to be any great leap forward on a Celtic deal.
Dembele isn’t the absolute priority right now for Marseille, who still seem quite confused on who and what they actually want.
Whilst Dembele is frequently linked to Marseille in France, there’s not often a price mentioned, and that could prove an issue. Celtic aren’t going to sell the player cheaply, especially at this stage of the transfer window.
Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t be thrilled to lose Dembele now, and it’s not even certain if the Celtic player wants a France return… with reports on that changing weekly in France.
Regardless of what Marseille do from here on in, this is likely to be a Celtic headache until the window closes.
