Celtic sent scouts to Lisbon to watch Benfica’s cup tie against Marítimo on Saturday.
Portuguese outlet Record are those reporting the scouting mission, although they don’t say who the officials were watching.
In case Celtic were keeping an eye on Benfica’s aces, it was worth the trip. The home side thrashed Marítimo 6-0, so there were many positives to take.
Even without scoring a goal, striker Gonçalo Guedes was the man of the match, due to the many chances he created during the game. Former Fulham striker Konstantinos Mitroglou was another one who deserved attention, as he scored the team’s third and fourth goals.
On Marítimo’s side, the highlight was ironically their goalkeeper. Eduardo Gottardi may have conceded six goals, but still managed to stop things from getting worse.
Celtic scouts had already been spotted in a Benfica game earlier this month, and on previous occasions in recent months, so the Scottish club are certainly keeping an eye on someone from their squad.
Benfica players don’t come cheap, unless the club are keen to ship someone out, so it would be interesting to know just who Celtic are keen on.
