As reported by L’Equipe on Thursday, Marseille are keeping an eye on the situation of Celtic’s Moussa Dembélé, as their search for a marquee striker continues.

The French newspaper stated Andoni Zubizarreta, the club’s director of football, was aware it would cost the club around €15m or so to prise the forward from Brendan Rodgers’ grasp.

However, and this, for once, is good news for Celtic fans, the Ligue 1 club’s advances aren’t as advanced as they were made out to be 24 hours ago, as Marseille continue to focus on trying to sign Mario Balotelli.

L’Equipe describe the enquiries for Dembélé as ‘light’, or at least ‘lighter’ than the ones made to Valencia for Simone Zaza, both alternatives to the former Manchester City striker, should Nice prove too difficult to negotiate with.

This means the Celtic Park faithful might want to keep an eye on what goes on between the two French sides, as a complete collapse in the Balotelli deal would mean Marseille turning their attention elsewhere, and they could end up wanting to get a deal done quickly depending on how much time they have left in their transfer window.
