Should Celtic complete the signing of Jean-Kevin Duverne, as L’Equipe’s Sunday edition suggests they have a good chance of, then they’ll be getting a player who has received more than his fair share of interest from English clubs.

In September 2016 we covered an article from France Football which stated Duverne was receiving interest from Tottenham, Southampton, Newcastle United, Liverpool, and, now Championship club, Sunderland.

France Football also said Duverne was being followed by big Spanish clubs. Comparisons, albeit weak, were made with Raphael Varane, which can’t be a bad thing for Brendan Rodgers and Celtic to hear.

Highly rated, despite being in Ligue 2, Duverne was expected to go on and have a good season. He did, albeit not spectacular, which has probably given Celtic a bigger chance than they would have otherwise had.

The clear interest from England is just another reason for Rodgers to encourage Celtic to get this one done quickly, so as to avoid Lens asking for more, or another club gazumping the Scottish Premiership champions.
