As the race for Club America defender Edson Alvarez goes on, with Celtic linked again this week, the Mexican side are now genuinely getting prepared for his eventual transfer.

In a press conference this week, manager Miguel Herrera talked about the 21-year-old, claiming the club know they may not have him for too long.

Celtic have ‘shown an interest in the player’, according to the claims, in linkes which started under Brendan Rodgers and have continued under Neil Lennon.

“Without a doubt, he is a player who has aspirations to emigrate,” Miguel Herrera told the Mexican press. “He is already a reference at the national team and he is also a 21-year-old starter at America. I ‘m sure they will be watching and we are aware that he can leave us in the summer.”

These quotes are brought by Marca, who complete their story with a paragraph about the race for the defender. They say Ajax and Celtic are two of the clubs who have shown their interest for the player.

However, Marca points out that nobody has presented a bid for Alvarez so far, so it should take a while until his transfer to Europe is finally sorted.

Recent claims from Italy have said that Inter Milan are keen on Alvarez as well, so it could end up being an interesting race to follow in the summer, and a difficult one for Celtic to win.
