Celtic last night sent an official to the game between Benfica and Napoli, according to claims in the Portuguese media. The SPL side have made frequent trips to the country in recent seasons, and have continued to do so in this campaign.
A Bola have confirmed Celtic officials were on the scouting list for last night’s Champions League clash, and they were joined by clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham United. There have been no reports who Celtic were watching last night, but this isn’t the first time they’ve attended Benfica game this season, with the possibility they have their eye on a player from the Portuguese champions.
When Brendan Rodgers was in charge of Liverpool, the club often had someone attend the games of top Portuguese clubs, and Celtic have been there in the past too.
In May 2015 it was reported that Liverpool were days away from signing Benfica’s Salvio, before he suffered a serious knee injury. He played last night, and he would be an ambitious target for Celtic, but there was other talent on show too.
