Celtic last night sent scouts to the game between Benfica and Rio Ave, according to A Bola’s match report. Brendan Rodgers’ side have ben frequent visitors to Portugal this season, and have attended several Benfica games.
A Bola have confirmed Celtic were on the scouting list to see Benfica run out 2-0 winners in the Portuguese league game. Celtic were joined by other clubs from across Europe, but as normal with these scouting reports there is no indication who any of the clubs were watching.
Just a few days ago we covered reports from Portugal that Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday watched the game between Benfica and Estoril, but again there were no claims who the two clubs were getting a lowdown on.
Brendan Rodgers is repeatedly sending his spies off from Celtic Park to Benfica, there’s quite clearly something going on. Celtic have scouted Portuguese clubs for some time, but it’s to remember a period why there were as frequent as they are now with Benfica.
The best player on show last night was Pizzi, who scored Benfica’s second goal in a 2-0 win. The 27 year old isn’t one of Benfica’s most highly prized stars, so could be in contention to be the one Rodgers has his eye on for Celtic.
