A couple of days ago, we covered reports from Germany which stated Celtic are very keen on signing Arne Engels from FC Augsburg, but weren’t offering anywhere near enough for the club to accept.

It was pointed out that despite the UK media being insistent the deal was on the verge of being done, that wasn’t the case because of a difference in valuations for the midfielder.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were believed to want to pay €7.5m, whereas the Germans wanted something between €10m and €15m. That was holding things back for Celtic.

Now there’s been a breakthrough, with Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reporting there’s ‘total agreement’ between Augsburg and Celtic.

The fee is €13m, with the German club securing a 20% sell-on clause. The 20-year-old midfielder is set to have his Celtic medical on Friday.

The deal will produce a healthy profit given Augsburg paid just €100,000 in January 2023. Celtic won’t care much about that, having secured the player they want.
