Rangers prepared for their match against Feyenoord with a relatively easy win over Hamilton at the weekend. Steven Gerrard’s side took all three points thanks to two goals from Ryan Kent and another from Ryan Jack.
They’re in a good position to qualify for the next round of the Europa League, and Glasgow rivals Celtic are already there after their great performances against Lazio.
This has all seen Celtic and Rangers get more attention around the European sport media, as has the close battle for the Scottish Premiership. Neil Lennon’s side currently lead the league, but only on goal difference from the Ibrox club.
Having managed Rangers himself, and having enjoyed success with them, Dick Advocaat knows more than most how big the two clubs are.
The Feyenoord boss has today warned the Dutch media that the match on Thursday won’t be easy, and he’s quoted by Voetbal International as saying: “I have seen the match against Feyenoord and a few others and they have a very good selection. Scottish football is underestimated in the Netherlands. Celtic and Rangers are top European clubs and they are close to the level they want to achieve. They have good players, all international players, it will be difficult for us.”
On manager Steven Gerrard, Advocaat was full of praise: “From the moment he stepped in it went up, that says enough about his qualities. They have had the chance to buy a few good players, they have bought experienced players. The combination with young players makes Rangers very good.”
That was enough of the overly kind words, and the Dutchman then explained the atmosphere at De Kuip will match that of Ibrox, before making it clear that whilst Rangers are good… they’re ‘not Real Madrid’.
