Peru’s sports manager, Juan Carlos Oblitas, says midfielder Renato Tapia has already agreed to a deal with a new club amid reports of interest from Celtic and Rangers.
The Peru international is set to leave Dutch side Feyenoord this summer, with both parties having agreed not to extend his stay.
He has subsequently been linked with a move to several leagues in Europe, namely the Scottish Premiership, with both Celtic and fierce rivals Rangers having been named as potential destinations.
A report from South American outlet Libero last month named the Glasgow duo among Tapia’s many suitors, with it claimed they would both ‘welcome’ his signing.
They claimed that both clubs were looking to sign a ‘top-class midfielder’ this summer and thus would be ‘delighted’ were they to secure the 24-year-old’s signature.
There has been little talk of either club’s apparent interest since then, with Celtic’s transfer business yet to get going and Rangers focused elsewhere, namely with them finalising a permanent deal for Ianis Hagi.
According to Oblitas, though, Tapia’s future has already been sorted, although he’s refusing to say where he’s going for the time being.
“Tapia is going to get a team, and what’s more, I think he already has,” he told Ovacion.
“But they don’t want to say it, because he still has a contract until the end of the month.
“I understand that he has offers for important teams, that he will start training at any time when soccer is restarted.”
