Rabbi Matondo’s performances for Cercle Brugge have encouraged both Celtic and Rangers to take notice.
The winger spent last season on loan at the Belgian club from Schalke and finished the campaign with 10 goals and two assists in all competitions, which caught the attention of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ange Postecoglou.
Cercle Brugge have an option to make his stay permanent for €3m and showed willingness to exercise it, making him their most expensive signing ever.
That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who add the deal for Cercle Brugge has become complicated due to the 21-year-old’s wage demands. He wanted a €2m per year salary and these figures are high for even top clubs in Belgium.
Burnley will have to be quick because of Celtic and Rangers. It’s claimed both the Scottish Premiership champions and Van Bronckhorst’s side are negotiating with Schalke to sign the attacker this summer.
Apart from Celtic, Rangers and possibly Burnley, Het Nieuwsblad also mention Fulham and Bournemouth being keen on Matondo.
Wales take on Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday, and if Matondo were to impress against the Rode Duivels, his valuation could increase further.
